Miami Beach, FL— Design / Miami- Booth G31
For Design Miami 2024, Ornamentum will present a very special feature; Seeeeeeeeeee - an exhibition of rings by Karl Fritsch. Celebrated for his playful irreverence, Fritsch enjoys a cult following from collectors of design and fine art alike. Fritsch’s rings range from easily wearable to absurdly extreme, and he chooses to honor or disregard the typical conventions of jewelry design however he sees fit- mixing gold with fake stones or glass, setting a precious sapphire with a screw or nails…
The installation will consist of a 25 foot wall-mounted shelf, upon which a large selection of Fritsch’s rings - over 60 new rings created specifically for the exhibition will be presented. The wall below his rings is adorned by the artist’s free form jewelry drawings.
Fritsch will be present for the opening of the fair, and he will participate in Blue Sky Thinking, a panel discussion moderated by Glenn Adamson, Tuesday December 3, 1:30 - 2:30 pm.
Ornamentum artists routinely cross disciplines- jewelry artists such as Hanna Hedman features a handmade steel cabinet, while Jiro Kamata presents wall artworks of glass and camera lenses set in silver that converse with the decorative metal arts in their materials and handwork, directly corresponding with his jewelry. Jaydan Moore, a favorite of Design Miami for his large wall artworks, will instead present a 36” diameter sculptural vessel this year, created of found silver-plated platters, cut and spliced together by hand. NY jewelry artist Samuel Gassman presents an extraordinary crown of mixed materials. Those who know Ornamentum will also expect a stellar selection of contemporary jewelry and small object and they will not be disappointed.
Based in Hudson, New York, Ornamentum Gallery celebrates their 17th consecutive year exhibiting at Design Miami. In 2008 Ornamentum was the first gallery of its kind to bring a mix of contemporary jewelry and design to Miami Art Week.
